Dispatch from the Test Kitchen

If you’re trying our bars this week, you might notice that they’re quite a bit darker in colour than usual. We normally use almond meal that’s been blanched (skins removed), but we’re trying some unblanched almond meal for a change. Aside from making the bars darker, it increases the fibre content slightly, and (as far as we can tell) doesn’t alter the taste. We’d love your feedback.

Best Cherries Ever

Image

The past couple of years have been a bit hit and miss with cherry crops; poor weather in California has resulted in cherries that are a bit of the dry side, without the deep red hue and distinct liqueur-like flavour everyone loves.  We’ve recently discovered new source for cherries though, and we’re blown away by their texture, sweetness, and amazingly complex flavour profile.  They’re grown in Oregon and they’re phenomenal- by far the best ones we’ve ever tasted.

We’re using these cherries now in our Chocolate Cherry Cardamom protein bars.  They’re the perfect match for the Callebaut premium chocolate we use, and our signature 5-spice masala.  And with 20 grams of top-quality protein per bar, they’re as healthful as they are decadent. Order a box through our online store and you’ll see what we’re talking about: http://goo.gl/GrfC4

Couple of Quick Things…

02

The accolades keep coming in for our new Chocolate Ginger Espresso protein bars. We’re thrilled to hear everyone’s enjoying them, and that they’re continuing to fly off the shelves at our Toronto retailers.

However, you may have noticed that we still don’t have them listed in our online store; we’re just waiting for the final product photos to be finished and some technical website work to be done. They definitely ARE available for online ordering though. If you’d like some Chocolate Ginger Espresso bars, simply proceed through the checkout process on our website as usual, then send us a quick note specifying what you’d like your order to consist of. Don’t be shy- hit us up at orders@musclemasala.com and we’ll take care of you.

Here’s a fun little video review we just received from Rick Matharu, from the Food Network’s Recipe to Riches. Big thanks for this, Rick, and thanks also for showing us the proper way to perform hamstring curls on a La-Z-Boy chair.

Snake Eyes!

After many long nights in the Muscle Masala test kitchen, we’re thrilled to announce that our long-anticipated Chocolate Ginger Espresso protein bar has finally hit the streets.

Just like our other two flavors, we’re using only the absolute best ingredients we can find: Callebaut premium dark chocolate chips and Bensdorp Dutch cocoa powder. Fresh crystalized ginger and orange peel. A fair trade espresso blend that Detour makes especially for our pals at Dark Horse here in Toronto. A spice masala that we grind in-house, made with cardamom, fennel seed, cloves, black pepper, and cassia.

So, to say that these bars have little in common with the factory-made versions sold at your local supplement shop or drugstore would be a bit of an understatement.

At 20 grams of protein per bar, our Chocolate Ginger Espresso flavor has the same phenomenal nutritional profile as our other offerings, and is loaded with some of nature’s greatest superfoods. They’re perfect pre- or post-workout, or simply as a nutritious meal replacement when you’re chained to your desk all day.

Full-blown production of our Chocolate Ginger Espresso bars starts in about a week, and they’ll be available for direct ordering through our online store in April. In the meantime, we’re making a limited quantity of them for our Toronto retailers: Dark Horse Espresso Bar, Redline Coffee and Espresso, and Bang Fitness. They’ve got them right now. If you absolutely must have a box of these before the end of the month though, drop us a note at orders@musclemasala.com, and we’ll likely be able to accommodate you- we’ll be making a few extras for ourselves.

Big thanks for the continued support, everyone.

Adorabells Giveaway!

P1120429P1120426

Are these badass or what? They’re Adorabells, one-of-a-kind, hand-painted bicycle bells from the twisted mind of Canadian artist, Dan Springer.

If Dan’s unique style looks familiar, it may be because he’s the guy who designed the packaging for our protein bars. He’s also created collectable toys, skateboard decks, sneakers, clothing, and a million gig posters over the years.

We’ve managed to get our hands on two Adorabells, and we’re giving them away to two lucky Muscle Masala customers this week.

To enter, all you need to do is purchase a box of Muscle Masala bars from our online shop this week, by Sunday, March 17th, before 10:00 pm EDT. We’ll randomly select a winner on Sunday night, and if you’re one of the lucky ones, we’ll contact you via email and send out your Adorabell with your order on Monday morning. You’ll be entered once for each box of bars you purchase, so stock up to increase your odds of winning.

To see more of Dan Springer’s work (including his amazing new Stompin’ Tom painting), visit his Facebook page here.

Good luck everyone, and thanks for your support.

Offer only valid in Canada. Chances of winning is dependent upon number of participants. To qualify, orders must be placed via the Muscle Masala online store between 9:00 am EDT on Monday, March 11th, 2013 and 10:00 pm EDT, Sunday, March 17th, 2013. Between the two winners, person who places their order first will get first pick of the two designs.
